With all of the Spider Men slinging around the multiverse, how would Sin City alum Josh Hartnett have fared in the red and blue tights? Having also turned down chances to play Superman and Batman, Hartnett said he was afraid of being "pigeon-holed".

After starring in back-to-back hits (Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor), Josh Hartnett was a young actor who was still figuring out in which direction he wanted his career to go.

Spider Man wasn't the only hero role being discussed with Hartnett at the time. There were talks of casting him as Superman and Batman as well. He told Details magazine “I’d only turned down Superman as a straight-up offer. But I was, at that time of my career, where a lot of people were asking me to do those types of movies."

Hartnett claimed that Batman was more of a "discussion" than offer. In regards to Spider Man, he said “Spider-Man was something we talked about. Batman was another one. But I somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn’t want that.” He’d added, “I didn’t want to be labeled for the rest of my career. I was maybe 22, but I saw the danger.”
