Theres a fun game to play with people who dont know this one - Show them a clip, even a picture, of Johnny master-of-flamboyancy Depp as a relatively normal twenty something playing Nancys boyfriend Glen. Some of you reading this will have known this one all along, but I just played that fun game on a large scale. Depps character is the loving, if not a bit oblivious, boyfriend who meets an unfortunate end when resident psychopath Freddy Krueger helps him to paint his ceiling red and tries to fix the inside of his mattress by sucking him through it. This wacky end was surely an indication of the kind of roles he would become known for in his career since. Now
Depps breakthrough came just three years later in the form of the original 21 Jump Street TV show. Depp became a teen icon and then went on to become one of the best known actors in the world by taking the craziest roles imaginable and upping the batshit counter to 11. He started a prolific and successful spate of films with Tim Burton, probably on account of them sharing a strange vision of dancing skeletons and slightly paedophilic Willy Wonkas. Depp also gave many performances as historic figures and beloved characters, all of which would be too long to list once again. Suffice to say, Depp is probably the most well-known actor on this list and with good reason - his acting is varied and usually spectacularly zany, he is one of the longest running 'Sexiest Man Alive' winners in several instances and his career has become the stuff of legend.
