10 Famous Actors You Didn’t Know Started Out In Horror Films

8.Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey - Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Next Generation

ThenThe next generation €œIf looks could kill, he wouldn€™t need a chainsaw.€ If that doesn€™t make the slasher fans out there grimace, I don€™t know what would. The less said about Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey€™s unfortunate debuts to the film world, the better. Suffice to say, The Next Generation is a sequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre so terrible that every effort was taken to retcon it out of existence, and now the only reason it is even known is because of these two relatively big names attached to it. Zellweger plays one of the hapless victims who is wearing a completely ridiculous dress. She is meant to be the sassy, survivalist character and yet she just comes off as another stupid slasher girl. McConaughey on the other hand plays the villain (no, not Leatherface, just one of his redneck family members Vilmer). Poor Matt tries to put in a good performance but the shoddy production falls so flat that it becomes impossible to even appreciate it. If there€™s one thing worse than a crappy slasher film (one that takes itself seriously, of course), it€™s a crappy slasher sequel. And if there€™s anything worse than that, it€™s a crappy slasher sequel that is so bad that it wastes good talent. Nowzellweger mcon Zellweger (who admittedly had a few independent film roles beforehand) carried on from this abysmal point in her early career by becoming best known in romantic comedies and dramas. She starred in the likes of Jerry Maguire, Bridget Jones, Chicago and Nurse Betty, while her role in Cold Mountain awarded her with a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. McConaughey (who also admittedly saw fame before in the cult film Dazed and Confused - sue me if you€™re really that bothered) also saw a genre change to romantic comedies, starring in Failure to Launch and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, amongst many others. He has had a varied career since, appearing in everything from blockbuster action to black comedy.
