It's hard to believe now, but there was a time when Helen Mirren was not considered a widely respected actress. In fact, there were plenty industry folk who considered her a less serious actor because she was always stripping down on film. Ironically, Mirren only agreed to do the scenes in the first place because she was young and wanted to be taken seriously.

She was naked in the majority of her earlier films, though the only one she didn't mind stripping down for was the historical drama Caligula. Mostly because pretty much everyone in the movie got nude at one point or another.
Mirren admits she was always afraid to perform nude scenes, saying she "never wanted to do that" and that the good thing about getting older is she "doesn't have to do that sort of thing anymore."
