It's practically a guarantee that any actress who appears on Game of Thrones for more than a few seconds is going to eventually show up without their top on. That's true of most shows on HBO, in fact. And almost no one bared it all on GoT more than Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, one of the show's most popular characters.
But in 2014, Clarke told the show's executives she wouldn't be appearing nude anymore. She maligned the series' over-indulgence in nudity and overtness in using sex to gain viewership.
"Sex scenes should be more subtle. I'm British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway. I can't stand it."
Clarke did break her promise in a famous Season 6 episode which saw her clothes literally burned off, but that scene wasn't gratuitous in its titillation.
Though the actress recalled sitting down with her parents to watch that episode, and being absolutely mortified when the nude scenes popped up.
"I sat them down and said, ‘Let’s watch it!’ and then instantly regretted it…My dad’s like, 'Again?'"
