8. Indiana Jones (Raiders Of The Lost Ark)
THE QUEST To discover the lost Ark of the Covenant and stop it falling into the hands of the Nazis.
WHAT HAPPENS? Indy ropes in old flame Marion Ravenwood to help find the Ark and they head to Egypt with their ally Sallah to uncover it's location. Fighting 0ff Arabs wielding scimitars, Nazis with machine guns and a tomb full of snakes, Indy actually finds the Ark but the enemy follows him and takes it. Indy might have found the Ark, but he led the Nazis right to it's location.
WHY DOES HE FAIL? Well anyone who watched the recent 'The Raiders Minimization' episode of
The Big Bang Theory will know that, despite all his awesomeness, Indy completely fails in his quest. In fact, fellow writer Simon Gallagher even surmised that he
did nothing to affect the plot. Which is probably true. The Nazis do get their hands on the Ark because Indy inadvertently leads hem to it. And then they go and open the damned thing. Fortunately the light of God melts their skulls and they all die. Indy and Marion live on and the good guys win...because the enemy did exactly what they set out to do and perish as a result.
