10 Famous Movie Props That Sold For Ridiculous Prices

3. The DeLorean (Back To The Future)

It's truly amazing how much normal things increase in value once they appear in a film. Hats, glasses, axes... you can buy these things on the high street for a couple of quid each, but if someone famous uses it, then boom - it's priceless.

Back when they were first manufactured, DeLorean cars... were just normal cars. Granted, they looked pretty cool and unique, with their up-swinging doors and sleek, pointed frames, but they didn't do anything fancy, and could get you from A to B as well as any other model on the market.

But then, Back to the Future happened, and the DeLorean became an instant icon - so much so that one of the cars used during the filming of the third entry in the franchise sold for a massive $541,000 (£422,000) at an auction in 2011.

At the time, the vehicle was said to be only one of three remaining, and went for an astonishing figure considering that ordinary DeLorean cars only have a value of around $30,000.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
