10 Famous Movie Villains That Had Understandable Motives
9. Jigsaw - Saw
Over-use of exposition and an endless amount of sequels aside, the Saw franchise was an interesting premise, a killer that puts people into situations where they will either survive or end up killing themselves. John Kramer, an elderly man with a private life that had fallen apart, received the news that he had cancer. Upon a failed suicide attempt, John learned that life must not be wasted and set out to teach those who do waste their lives such a lesson, hence, Jigsaw was born. Yes, he has questionable morals, yes, he has done horrible, deplorable things, but he is essentially teaching people the dangers of wasting life. Perhaps what he does won't improve the world, but he isn't a violent or hateful person, not in the slightest. He always gives his victims a fair chance - something that can't be said for his accomplices - even if they are the lowest of the low. Let's remember that most cinematic "morality killers" would just outright terminate someone who they deemed as a bad person, at least Jigsaw gives people a second chance, something I'm sure many people wouldn't be willing to do.
