10 Famous Movies That Would Have Been Better Off With Their First Choice Actors

7. Will Smith As Django Freeman - Django Unchained

I'll make it clear that I'm no fan of Django Unchained (or Quentin Tarantino in general, actually). Django Unchained could've been a brilliant film, even if most of the plot is ripped off from better quality but more obscure films from the 60s and 70s. But when watching it, you couldn't help but feel like something was missing. That person was Will Smith. As mentioned at the beginning, Will Smith was originally Tarantino's first choice to play Django, and I think he definitely would've pulled it off better than Jamie Foxx's phoned-in performance. Foxx can be a brilliant actor when he wants to be (see Collateral and Ray for evidence) but in Django Unchained, he just plain sucks. Though Django is really only a supporting character, it's still his story, and there's plenty for him to do, but he just doesn't take the opportunity at all and in every scene it feels like Foxx is just going through the motions. When you're being out-acted by Don Johnson, something is definitely wrong. So why did Will Smith turn down the part? Because, according to the man himself, he absolutely has to be the lead role in every film, and he felt that Dr. King Schultz, played by Christoph Waltz, had all the good lines. That doesn't answer the question of why he chose to play supporting actor to his son in After Earth, though. He still has to explain that one.
