10 Famous Movies That Became Too Real

10. The Japanese Truman Burbank - The Truman Show/Oldboy

The Truman Show is a crazy movie about something that would never, ever come true in real life - pretty much because the plot hinges on a man's entire life - from birth to adulthood - being a reality show that he has no idea exists. Oldboy, a South Korean flick, tells the story of a man who is kidnapped and locked in a room for fifteen years for no reason. Now imagine a blend of the two. Though a Truman Show on the specific terms outlined in the movie would likely never lead to a direct version (legalities and all), and the fact the Oldboy plot is just plainly terrible, something very similar did occur in - you guessed it - Japan. All the really wacky stuff happens in Japan, of course; it is, after all, the land of the every vending machine ever. In this case, though, the Japanese cross between The Truman Show and Oldboy was called Susunu! Denpa Shnen, and it was absolutely horrible in every way. Basically the show consisted of one man (who agreed to a bizarre challenge) being locked naked in an apartment for the sum of eight months. He had no clothes, food and water, and had to win stuff by sweepstake. When it was over, they told him he had won a prize and led him into... another apartment, this time in South Korea. The whole sweepstake thing started up again. This went on for 15 months.
