10 Famous Movies That Became Too Real

5. Kids Dress Up As Ghostface & Commit Murder - Scream

Though it was conceived as something of a parody of teen slasher movies, let's face it: Scream was pretty scary. Even if the thought of 'ol Ghostface coming at you with a knife has since been reduced to the stuff of hilarity thanks to the Scary Movie movies, Scream succeeded because it managed to both play homage to the movies it took inspiration from whilst remaining quite horrific in its own right. Once upon a time, it also came true. In 1998, a 16-year-old boy named Mario Padilla and his 14-year-old cousin, Sam Ramirez, came to the world's attention thanks to what the media nicknamed "The Scream Murder." Padilla, clearly unhinged, was arrested after he stabbed his mother, Gina Castillo, 45 times - all whilst Ramirez held her down. Eventually they confessed to having been inspired by Scream and Scream 2 after they'd gone out and bought Ghostface costumes and a voice changer.
