10 Famous Movies You Had No Idea Were Actually Remakes

6. Meet Joe Black (1998)

You Know It As... That 181 minute-long Brad Pitt movie where he gets hit by all those cars. Considered to something of a minor cult classic nowadays, though critically panned upon its first release, Meet Joe Black - starring Brad Pitt as the eponymous character - clings to a rather balmy plot that has Death himself wandering around looking like the star of Fight Club, learning about Earth and, uh, falling in love. It sounds ridiculous because it is, but there are some good performances to be had here, not to mention that scene where Pitt gets hit by all those cars. It's A Remake Of...Death Takes A Holiday (1934), a movie that clings to pretty much the same premise, with Death (wondering why people fear him) coming to Earth for a few days to mingle with mortals and find an answer to his question. In the original version, Death was inhabited by actor Fredric March, who won two Academy Awards for Best Actor over the course of his long career. That's good, isn't it? Anyway, Death Takes A Holiday is far superior to the rather slow and uneven Meet Joe Black, though unfortunately there are no horrific car accident sequences to treasure.
