10 Famous Movies You Had No Idea Were Actually Remakes

5. Four Brothers (2005)

FourBrothers

You Know It As.... That super violent movie about four racially diversive brothers who come together to kil those who may or may not know who murdered their mother. Four Brothers made a fair amount of cash at the box office, but failed to fare well with critics, who saw it as something of a wasted opportunity. The plot hooks up four adopted "brothers," all raised by the same woman in Michigan, who return home when they discover that she's been murdered. At first it seems like a liquor store robbery gone wrong, but this is a movie, so there's a lot more to it. It's A Remake Of...The Sons of Katie Elder (1965), a - would you believe it? - western movie directed by True Grit's Henry Hathaway and starring the one and only John Wayne. And it's no wonder that barely anybody noticed Four Brothers was a disguised remake, because that's what happens when you switch genres completely and tweak the story somewhat. In the original flick, the Katie Elder character isn't murdered - she dies at the beginning of the movie, as a plot device for bringing the four brothers back together. In Katie Elder, too, the brothers are blood-related.
