10 Famous People You May Have Forgotten Were Oscar Winners

8. The Beatles

Speaking of an Oscar win feeling like a career footnote, here are The Beatles! Yes - believe it or no - the quartet won the Oscar in 1971 for the score to their film Let It Be. Now, the score was pretty much just... well, it was the Let It Be album. The other Oscar nominees must've been bummed to have to go against them in that category. How do you compete against a Beatles album? The Beatles were so extraordinarily successful throughout their career that people were giving them awards even after they'd broken up. Indeed, by the time the Academy handed The Beatles an Oscar in April 1971, the fab four had already gone their separate ways: John, George, and Ringo were embarking on solo careers and Paul McCartney was forming Wings. Apparently they were all too busy to appear at the Academy Awards, too, as music producer Quincy Jones wound up accepting the Oscar for them. Considering the award came within a year of the band breaking up, it's easy to forget that they ever won an Oscar in the first place. Once again, like with Eminem, it just does not seem like a significant accomplishment compared to everything else the band did throughout their legendary careers.
