10 Famous Uncredited Roles You May Not Have Noticed

4. Richard Armitage - Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Lucasfilm

Try to ignore the young Natalie Portman, the even younger, albino Keira Knightley wearing a black and red croissant on her head, half a Liam Neeson and Bill Murray lookalike, Ralph Brown (difficult once it's been mentioned) and notice beyond the distracting foreground nonsense that there stands Thorin Oakenshield - minus the beard and brooding persona. Yes, the British-born Richard Armitage - famous for roles in Spooks, The Vicar Of Dibley and Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy - plays a Naboo fighter pilot in the first of the Star Wars prequels - The Phantom Menace.

He is one of many now-recognisable faces to have taken minor roles in the prequel franchise including the aforementioned Knightley, Dominic West as a Palace Guard, Sofia Coppola as a member of Padme's contingent and Zero Dark Thirty's Joel Edgerton as Luke Skywalker's adoptive father, Owen Lars. Upon reflection, Armitage had this to say about his time on the Star Wars set:

"I certainly turned up and filmed a day, but I can't find myself in the movie! I think I ended up as a droid. I thought I was a fighter pilot. I can't find where I am. I had a line to Ewan McGregor: 'No one's on board, sir.'"
