3. Damon Herriman - Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood was lauded upon release with many believing it was among the directors finest work. Based off the performances of its 3 leads in Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, it's a difficult point to argue, but looking deeper the film certainly lets itself down with the woeful misuse of supremely talented Aussie actor Damon Herriman.
Outside of fans of HBO's Justified, Damon Herriman was probably not a name familiar to most when he was cast as Charles Manson, and this probably did not change after the credits had rolled at the end of the film. Despite the film depicting the infamous Manson family murders, Herriman is given little to no screen-time as the enigmatic cult leader.
The true disappointment of this under-use is only truly hammered home when one looks to Herriman's other performance as Manson. Herriman is granted the screen-time he richly deserves in Netflix's Mindhunter and he takes the air from the room with his performance.
His chilling, wholly believable embodiment of the psychotic Manson is nothing short of staggering. Tarantino's decision to limit Herriman to a fleeting glance was an undoubtedly poor one and the evidence exists to back up that claim.
