10 Fatal Mistakes That Ruined The DCEU

Kevin Feige has always been the architect behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the fact that every major decision must go through him played a huge factor in the upstart studio quickly becoming the most popular and lucrative franchise that the movie business has ever seen.

The same can't be said of the DCEU, with constant behind-the-scenes reshuffling leading to a confused approach to their comic book output, resulting in a lack of a clear vision or direction for their shared universe.

While Zack Snyder was the creative mind behind the early years of the franchise, he ended up answering to a lot of different people during his time at the helm. Geoff Johns and Jon Berg were initially named as the heads of DC Films, but Johns technically worked for DC President Diane Nelson while Berg reported to Warner Bros.' Greg Silverman.

After Toby Emmerich replaced Silverman in late 2016, both Johns and Berg worked under his purview, but by the middle of 2018 both had left their positions, with Walter Hamada named as President of DC Films and given the task of trying to course-correct the stuttering.

The DCEU's early efforts definitely appeared as if they had fallen victim to having too many people getting a say in the finished product, and it's surely no coincidence that the quality of the DCEU's output has improved considerably by having just one person calling the shots.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
