10 Film Franchises That Are Officially In Jeopardy
3. Fantastic Four
There's nothing like a failed reboot to leave a franchise stranded in troubled waters and kill off the hopes and dreams of its fan base.
That pretty much sums up the state of the Fantastic Four movie series following Josh Trank's reviled revival, and given that his film marked a hat-trick of bad movies for Marvel's first family, the property's on-screen future is uncertain.
Fox must take great care when plotting its next move here. The studio appears set on retaining the rights to the FF, given that it's planning a Doctor Doom solo movie, but it is unclear whether this will serve as a relaunch vehicle for Mr Fantastic and co.
Matthew Vaughn, who acted as producer on the Trank stinker, recently said that he would like the opportunity to direct a Fantastic Four film as an apology to the fans, and Fox would do well to take him up on that offer.
Vaughn has brought unique vision to every comic book movie he's directed, whether its the traditionally Marvel X-Men, the subversive Kick-Ass or the spy-themed Kingsman, and that's exactly what the FF need.
Fox cannot afford to drop the ball the next time Fantastic Four is rebooted, because the prospect of four terrible FF movies is too tragically ironic to comprehend.
