10 Film Franchises You Really Should Stop Watching After The 2nd Movie

Spider-Man 3

It’s a heated debate among fans of the Alien series: what is the better movie, Alien or Aliens?

Both are masters of their respective genres. Alien is a tense horror that is dripping in atmosphere and dread. No movie has been quite able to match its unique feeling of macabre isolation.

Aliens, on the other hand, is a masterclass in blending horror with high octane action. Its script is endlessly quotable, and the characters are well crafted. It is amazing to see how James Cameron, at the time a relatively new director, was able to twist the world of the original movie, and provide it with new avenues to explore.

What no fan argues is whether any of the sequels or prequels match the quality of those two movies.

While Alien 3 has its merits, it was hampered with a troubled and misguided production that resulted in a final product that even the director wants nothing to do with. If you’re going to watch it, the Assembly Cut is the way to go. If only Vincent Ward was able to direct his original script.

The rest of the series is barley worth mentioning. Alien: Resurrection is an unmitigated disaster, while the prequels struggle to find a reason to exist at all, other than monetary. And those Aliens vs. Predator movies, they might as well not exist.

At least Prometheus tried something new.
