10 Film Heroes You Didn't Realise Committed Shockingly Evil Acts

9. The Beast (Disney's Beauty And The Beast) €“ Kidnapping, Psychological Torture

Children's stories often have their darker sides, especially when they're made by Disney. Because, in the middle of all the racism and horrible transformations into donkeys there are a disturbing number of horrible things that fly right in the face of the moral they are trying put across. Disney's Beauty and the Beast doesn't give a great first impression for the Beast. Belle's poor father is lost in the woods, chased by wolves and then imprisoned by the Beast in his castle. Belle, the beauty half of the story, bravely offers to take her father's place as the Beast's prisoner. When she then has the audacity to refuse having dinner with him, he flies into a rage and orders his talking utensils to deny her food. After she finds the enchanted rose, the Beast again shows his short temper and Belle attempts to flee the castle. The Beast gives chase, luckily arriving in time to rescue her from some wolves. He is injured and instead of taking the opportunity to run for it Belle drags him back to the castle and tends his wounds. They fall in love, fight off the angry mob, he turns back into a (spoilers!) prince, happily ever after, etc. Back to the Beast, if you can ignore the being held prisoner and flying into a rage at the slightest provocation, this is a wonderful love story. When you remember those things it becomes something else. Textbook Stockholm Syndrome. And I've not even mentioned all the smashed up furniture we see. If all the inanimate objects in the castle is sentient, then that is straight up murder...
