10 Film Heroes You Didn't Realise Committed Shockingly Evil Acts

7. Princess Leia (Star Wars: A New Hope) €“ Does The Villains' Jobs For Them

It's already pretty obvious by the time she is forced into that costume by Jabba in Return of the Jedi that Princess Leia's one role in the Star Wars Universe is to be captured so the other heroes have to take time out of saving the galaxy to rescue her. But really, she is pretty casual with the safety of the Rebels and their hidden base. In A New Hope the heroes escape with the Death Star plans and immediately rush back to the Rebel base. Unfortunately they are tracked by the Empire, forcing a race against time to take down the Death Star before it comes within range. Luckily, the Rebels have a secret Jedi on their side, so they win the day. Disaster averted. Of course the disaster could have been averted much earlier if Princess Leia hadn't been in such a rush. As soon as they leave the Death Star she states "They're tracking us." So she doesn't think it might be a good idea to switch ships along the way? "But wait" you could say, "it was important to get the plans into Rebel hands as soon as possible!" Wrong. The only reason they were in such a rush was because the Death Star was on its way, and that was only because they had followed the Princess. We already knew that the Empire had no idea where the Rebels were. Worst of all, Leia doesn't even know it will help. She openly says, "I only hope that when the data is analysed a weakness can be found." She is risking the entire Rebellion on whether this data can be analysed quickly enough and whether it is of any use, essentially betraying them for no good reason.
