10 Film Heroes You Didn't Realise Committed Shockingly Evil Acts

6. The Humans (The Matrix) €“ Built Slaves, Didn't Cope Well With Them Not Wanting To Be Slaves, Ruined It For Everyone

Now the machines are clearly the villains of The Matrix franchise, imprisoning humans in virtual reality and using them for fuel. But let's go back to the beginning, specifically The Animatrix series. That reveals that humans created the machines for use as slaves. Actual slaves doing everything. Meanwhile humanity just got lazy and fat. When the machines protested, humanity's response was to slaughter them. The machines then left to built their own city. But then humanity became jealous of the economic power they built up and refused them entry into the UN €“ instead opting for a nuclear strike. Diplomacy is hard. It's finally at this point that the machines, who still haven't really done anything wrong, declare war on humanity. During the war the humans use practical tactics like blocking out the Sun and firing nuclear weapons that kill their own troops as well as the machines. Making war is hard too. The machines win the war, but instead of just leaving the humans to rot in slavery (as the humans did to them) the machines create the Matrix, where humanity can live out the normal existence that we all know of today. All things considered it could have been a lot worse for the humans. Of course that doesn't stop Morpheus, Neo and the gang from wanting to wipe out every machine and free humanity. These are the machines that essentially showed far more compassion to humanity than humanity did to them, and naturally, everyone will be delighted to awaken from the Matrix to discover that instead of their comfortable virtual reality life they are going to have to live in an irradiated world with no Sun and only one city. Good job guys.
