3. Carl Fredricksen (Up) €“ A List Of Crimes Too Numerous To Name

It's Disney again, with the Best Picture nominated tear-jerker Up. But while you were crying, you may not have noticed that the elderly protagonist, Carl, builds up quite a criminal record during the film's events. It all starts with Carl ignoring a court order telling him to move to a retirement home. That's contempt of court. Doesn't matter if he is a curmudgeonly old man, the court order was made after he injured a construction worker. The man is clearly seen as a danger to himself and others. Instead he makes the perfectly reasonable response of flying away in his house carried by balloons, actually causing criminal damage as he leaves. His balloon house then takes him across international borders, violating immigration laws. As it's a Disney film, he also has a small boy with him who he does not attempt to return home until after all sorts of dangerous adventures. That's reckless endangerment at best, or more likely kidnapping. Finally when villain Charles Muntz dies at the end, Carl takes ownership of Muntz's airship. Even though Muntz was the villain, that's still theft. So there we have it, 5 or 6 crimes committed all in a 96 minute running time. Not bad for a pensioner.
