9. Shelly Duvall - Wendy Torrance
There are few books that changed as much from page to screen as The Shining. Stephen King's opus remains a fan favorite to this day, though Stanley Kubrick's adaptation is equally controversial. Kubrick rejected King's screenplay - let that sink in a moment - he rejected a screenplay from the author of the novel, deciding to go in another direction. This apparently included casting as Shelly Duvall landed the role of Wendy Torrance. In King's novel Wendy is described as a blonde cheerleader type who never really had any real problems to deal with. Duvall, on the other hand, appeared to have gone through some trials and in King's own assessment was the complete opposite of what he envisioned.
