10 Film Parodies Better Than The Original

Galaxy Quest is more than a parody movie, it’s a love letter to its source material that with a different cast could have been a phenomenal episode of Star Trek on its own merits. Not that the cast is a problem, in fact if there was never a William Shatner, Lenard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols then Tim Allen, Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver would be the next best three to replace them.

Tim Allen plays does a wonderful impression of the idea of William Shatner, a pompous and arrogant starlet who thinks he’s gods gift to women. Rickman plays the straight man to Allen being snarky and cynical throughout and Weaver plays the ships communication officer who is very aware of the fact she is there to be eye candy and reasonably frustrated by it.

They were all stars on Sci-Fi TV show Galaxy quest, a show that is mistaken to be a documentary by aliens who assume the misfit actors are actual heroes of the stars and recruit them to help them in their war. From there the film plays off Sci-Fi clichés and Star Trek tropes in increasingly hilarious ways.
