10 Film Reboots And Remakes To Be Concerned About In 2014
6. Mr. Peabody & Sherman
Plot: Using his WABAC machine, Mr. Peabody goes back in time with his adopted boy Sherman to experience world-changing events first-hand and interact with famous historical figures. When Sherman misuses the machine, leading to disastrous results, Mr. Peabody must help to put things back in order before the space-time continuum is destroyed. Based on: The Peabody's Improbable History segments that were featured in Rocky and His Friends and The Bullwinkle Show. It used to greatly bother me when I would hear that yet another one of my favorite cartoons was turning into a lifeless, humorless feature-length 3D animated film. No effort is put into these movies because kids will laugh at anything, which means we are basically training today's kids to be just as lame. I grew up with Looney Tunes, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The Smurfs, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, etc... as Saturday morning cartoons. Watch one of those cartoons now and you'll be surprised with how much more sophisticated they are than the endless parade of fart jokes that they've turned into. But no, I'm not bitter at all, I'm just disappointed that Hollywood has so little respect for those original cartoons. There have been so many of these remakes in recent years that I have basically stopped caring overall. So, when I found out there will be a Mr. Peabody & Sherman movie adaptation, I merely shrugged. Do kids even know about these characters? Look at the comments section in the trailer posted below, there's already kids who are calling it a rip-off of Family Guy. They don't have a clue. Surprisingly, though, the trailer actually looks pretty cute. The best case scenario for one of these movies is that it sticks to the spirit of the original cartoons and makes kids interested in seeing the old episodes. Yogi Bear, Alvin, and The Smurfs failed to do that. Mr. Peabody & Sherman, at the very least, looks like an honest attempt to stay true to the original cartoons.
