10 Film Subplots Infinitely Better Than The Main Story

Jumanji: The Next Level (unfortunately not titled 2manji) features the same characters as the previous film in the franchise as they return to the virtual world of Jumanji, but with two new additions: Milo and Eddie. Played by Dannys Glover and De Vito, the pair were once business partners and best friends, but after selling their restaurant, they drifted apart and resented each other.

Though much of 2manji hit the exact same beats as the first film, the one new element, bickering elderly characters in the bodies of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, proved to be as hilarious as it sounds. Seeing Johnson and Hart impersonate De Vito and Glover provides more laughs than anything else in the film, and the two old friends forgiving each other acts as the film's emotional centerpiece.

Jumanji: The Next Level felt very "been there, done that," but focusing more on the old men's subplot would have made it seem more fresh.
