10 Film Subplots Infinitely Better Than The Main Story

5. The Bartons - Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Unlike Black Panther's role in Civil War, this Marvel subplot was never designed to set up a standalone adventure, and so it's not given nearly as much focus. Still, one of the best plots of the overstuffed second Avengers film sees Hawkeye take the team to hide out at his secret family's farm. Here, we see that this Avenger lives a fairly ordinary life as a loving husband and dorky dad when he's not shooting aliens with an outdated weapon.

While the first Avengers film sets up its heroes as superhuman, Age of Ultron shines when it reminds us that they are human. Unfortunately, the humanizing scenes are few and far between, but none more effectively remind the audience that the Avengers are people than our time at Hawkeye's farm.

While a full length film at the Barton's could never work, more calmer moments such as this subplot would have improved the mile-a-minute pace of Age of Ultron.
