10 Film Subplots Infinitely Better Than The Main Story

3. Carl And Ellie - Up

STAR WARS FINN
Disney

Everyone agrees that the first ten minutes of Up are by far the film's best.

The film opens by introducing us to Carl, our protagonist, as a young boy. He soon meets a girl named Ellie, who has dreams of visiting the elusive Paradise Falls in South America. The film then flashes through their life together, including their wedding, moving into a new house together, desire to start a family, disappointment upon learning that they can't, and Ellie's death.

After these ten minutes, the film spirals into a grand adventure, in which Carl's house is lifted to Paradise Falls by balloons and he must defeat his old hero Charles Muntz. While this storyline is still fun, the film peaks with its beautiful montage of Carl and Ellie's life, making the subplot of their romance far better than the main story
