From the mind of Neil Gaiman comes a beautifully dark story about a fantasy world shielded from our own. In fantasy, characters usually get punished for exploring the unknown. However, they are also generally rewarded. Perseverance pays off. Challenges make us better. In the story of Coraline, there is no shortage of challenges.

The story is about a young girl searching for escape who finds a door to a magical world. Longing for a better version of her life, she finds it with the villainous Other Mother. Her plight is one any kid can understand and any adult can sympathize with. Coraline is dazzled with treats and all her desires granted. But in the classic 'be careful what you wish for fashion,' her perfect escape is not what it seems.

The movie is slightly unsettling, but that's the point of fairytales. The story informs us that what we want isn't always what we need. Coraline reminds audiences to be thankful for the things we have.
