Warner Bros must’ve blown all their cash on Batman & Robin in 1997 because Steel lacks the scale associated with comic book adaptations, and it’s only the presence of actors such as Richard Roundtree that convince us the film wasn’t made for the small screen.

Worse, the lead actor is the last person who should ever play a superhero – 7 ft 1 in NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal, who’d previously played a genie (why not?) in the comedy Kazaam. Imagine you’re a super villain and your nemesis is a 7 foot tall African American who makes only a casual attempt to hide his identity – how difficult can it be to track him down?

It’s complaints such as these that could be fixed in a remake, or failing that there’s always the possibility of bringing Steel on as a supporting character. He first appeared in 1994’s The Death Of Superman, so a role alongside the Man of Steel isn’t outside the bounds of possibility.
