10 Films That Risk Being 2015's Biggest Box Office Failures

10. Terminator Genisys

Still going strong over 30 years after the original movie was released, the Terminator series is a franchise that will not stop, ever, until... the rights revert back to James Cameron, probably. After the crushing disappointment that was Terminator Salvation, the franchise undergoes its second reboot in just six years armed with an awful title and a creative team that doesn't inspire much confidence in the final product. Terminator Genisys takes the X-Men: Days Of Future Past route and acts as a prequel, sequel and reboot to the existing canon, which is a difficult balancing act to pull off, especially for a franchise that hasn't had a great movie since 1991. The fact that Laeta Kalogridis (co-writer of Oliver Stone's Alexander and writer of Pathfinder) and Patrick Lussier (writer/director of My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry 3D, co-writer of Dracula 2000) are on scripting duties is hardly encouraging, while director Alan Taylor has done great work in television but saw his first foray into blockbuster filmmaking with Thor: The Dark World result in one of the weakest and most forgettable entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first trailer was a little underwhelming to say the least, and let's hope that the movie doesn't rely too heavily on the franchise's iconic moments instead of forging its own identity. Genisys also has a very small window in which to earn the majority of its box office as the July 1st release date puts it right in the midst of some heavy competition, so if the movie isn't very good it could suffer. To put it into perspective, Terminator Salvation took $371.4m at the box office and was considered a disappointment and with a budget that won't be far off $200m plus marketing costs, Genisys will need to at least match that number just to break even.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
