10 Films Ruined By Being An Hour Too Long

9. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End

The two previous Pirates of the Caribbean films ran in at 143 and 151 minutes respectively, both of which were frankly already pushing it. The third film in the series, At World's End, clocks in at a meaty 168 minutes, with Jerry Bruckheimer and co. apparently believing that there's no such thing as too much of a good thing. The key problem with At World's End is that it's so obvious where the fat lies, as Jack spends far too long trapped in the purgatory of Davy Jones's locker, an excuse for some pointlessly surreal sequences that likely bored younger audience members (this ain't exactly Fantasia) along with everyone else. It is a case of allowing the filmmakers to indulge themselves too much, and had the film ran for a mere 110 minutes, then perhaps the rest of it might have been viewed a little more kindly. If nothing else, it would certainly have seemed more action packed than it was.
