If you’ve learned anything from this list, it’s that making films about possession is a bad idea. Like The Omen, The Exorcist was also notoriously plagued.
Rumours of unrest on set of the William Friedkin film had been rife for years, and were finally clarified by actress Ellen Burstyn who addressed them in her biography. In the book, she details near-fatal fires that almost burnt the sets down.
Injuries to the cast, including Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn too are well documented. Both suffered back injuries during the filming of the possession scene.
The fear became too much for everyone involved, and a priest was brought in to bless the set so that filming could continue. During post-production, actors Jack MacGowran and Vasiliki Maliaros died chillingly mirroring their characters' fates in the film.
