All About Eve, released in 1950, is an undisputed classic. Featuring career-defining performances from both Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, the film tells the story of an established actress (Davis) and an ambitious ingenue, the titular Eve (Baxter). The story ends with Eve professionally triumphant, accepting an award and looking set for fame. However, there is a suggestion that she will fall victim to the kind of machiavellian power moves that she herself performed, as a young girl called Phoebe appears to be emulating her life. The introduction of Phoebe clearly left the door open for a sequel and, had the movie been made today rather than in the 1950s, one surely would have followed. Given the current fondness for period dramas, the possibility is still there and may fill the void for anyone missing the fashion of Mad Men.
