10 Films That Retconned Themselves (To Fix Glaring Mistakes)

7. Halloween: Resurrection – Michael’s Death

HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION

The franchise that can’t die makes a second appearance in this list. But why, you ask? Well dear reader, Michael Myers more than earns his second slot in the most glaringly obvious retcons via the events of Halloween: Resurrection.

A sequel to the surprise hit Halloween: H20, Halloween: Resurrection was released in 2002 to ask the question on no one’s lips: When will rapper-turned-actor Busta Rhymes kung-fu-fight Michael Myers? Unfortunately, audiences didn’t much care to see Busta bust a move on Haddonfield’s most infamous murderer and the film flopped disastrously. It’s a shame, since Resurrection pulled one of the most shameless retcons in horror history to bring back Michael in the first place.

Opening with Laurie in an insane asylum the film reveals that, contrary to what viewers saw in the previous instalment, she didn’t decapitate her bloodthirsty bro. Instead, that was a random paramedic whose larynx Michael crushed (meaning he couldn’t talk), before dressing him in in his iconic mask and leaving him in the ambulance while he escaped.

It just goes to show that the most logical conclusion usually is the right one.
