9. The Green Lantern (2011)
Budget: $200 million
Box Office: $116,601,172 With the sudden boom of comic book movies in Hollywood, Green Lantern seemed like a no-brainer: a large scale sci-fi action adventure made to clean up at the box-office. But Green Lantern fell short of studio and fan expectations. The movie had all the components for a summer blockbuster except for one: a strong script, proving that - once again - visually stunning special effects mean little without a powerful story. In the world of comics, the Lanterns are some of the most in-depth characters with a long history and fascinating mythology. Though Hollywood seemed to neglect that in favor of expensive action sequences (possibly hoping comic fans would simply shell out their hard earned cash for anything born in the realm of the graphic novel), Green Lantern not only should have been a major success it should have helped get the ball rolling for DC Comics to begin a similar Hollywood siege like competitor Marvel Comics. Nope.
