10 Films That Should Have Never Flopped At The Box Office

8. Howard The Duck (1986)

Howard the DuckBudget: $37 million Box Office: $16,295,774 Steve Gerber€™s comic book series Howard the Duck was a dark satire with surreal elements. One in which social issues were dealt with in a serious manner despite the fact that the main character happened to be a talking duck. Gerber had stated the main joke of the series was the simple fact that there was no joke. Such an absurd concept would be a hard sell as a film by today€™s standards, let alone back in the eighties, though George Lucas felt he was up to the task, working with director Willard Huyck. The original plan was to make an animated feature but Lucas was contractually obligated to provide his distributor with a live-action film and it was all downhill from there. The end result began with screenwriter who just didn€™t have a grasp on the source material, a script written to sacrifice story for special effects, and a film that couldn€™t figure out if it was meant for children or adults. Hopefully with the recent surge in Marvel comics based movies, Howard will get another chance at Hollywood fame, or at least a cameo in Iron Man 3.
