10 Films That Should Never Be Remade
7. Fight Club
Fight Club is often touted as having one of the best twists to come out of Hollywood in the 21st Century, and it’s easy to see why.
We follow the brilliant interactions between Brad Pitt and Edward Norton’s respective characters, Tyler and Jack (one of Norton’s character’s various aliases) as Jack descends into the dark underworld of illegal fight clubs in order to combat his inner demons.
The duo opens their very own fight club and Jack unravels, growing cold and even resorting to blackmailing his former boss to fund his illegal racket. After the death of a fighter, Jack tries to stop the fights.
It turned out that, when Jack believed himself to be sleeping, he was actually assuming his role as his dissociated personality, Tyler. That’s right, he had been fighting himself all along.
After a confrontation with his own split personality, Jack manages to ‘kill’ Tyler, freeing himself of, well, himself. Pitt and Norton, supported brilliantly by Helena Bonham Carter, play their roles perfectly, and the fact of the matter is that Fight Club’s twist is something that must remain unique. Any attempts to remake this twist will fall flat.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Don’t let your other personality fix it, either.
