10 Films That Should Never Be Remade

6. Jaws

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Universal Pictures

The fact that Jaws scared cinemagoers so much that people stopped going to the beach and there was a documented spike in reported cases of aquaphobia is quite incredible.

Based around a great white shark with a hunger for humans stalking the coast of New England, Jaws is still the greatest shark movie of all time.

Many film critics are quick to point out the flaws in the film, including the buoyancy of the prop and the fact that hydraulic tanks are visible in the beast’s throat in some frames. Ask yourself this: have advancements in technology made fake sharks any better?

When we look at the Sharknado franchise and 2019’s The Meg, the answer is almost certainly no. 47 Meters Down and The Shallows are still very good films, but no movie shark has ever struck fear into the hearts of viewers quite like Bruce.

Alongside this terrifying foe is the fantastic performance of the fairly small cast. The core trio of Brody (Roy Scheider), Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and Quint (Robert Shaw) all provide stellar performances.

Their fear felt genuine, inviting the viewers to live vicariously through them and experience the terror as their own.

Please, Hollywood, never let a cheesy rendition like ‘we’ve got a bigger boat’ make it to the silver screen.
