10 Films That Teased Great Sequels (That Never Happened)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an incredibly stylised film which is somewhat underrated for bringing to life such a nonsensical universe. Be it Martin Freeman demonstrating his well practised everyman performance as Arthur Dent, Alan Rickman as the depressed monosyllabic android Marvin or Sam Rockwell as the eccentric Zaphod Beeblebrox, the cast is pitch perfect.

In the final scene as Ford Prefect asks Arthur Dent if he has his towel and he replies "yes. Why, am I going to need it?", Ford's response "only always" seems confirmation that we will be treated to another serving of crazy antics in the near future. The last line uttered in the film even references the title of Douglas Adams' sequel The Restaurant at the End of the Universe as Rickman's Marvin exclaims "not that anyone cares what I say but the restaurant is at the other end of the universe".

Sadly the film only made $100 million on its budget of $50 million and was not given a second outing due to perceived lack of audience enthusiasm for the Douglas Adams adventure film. Freeman confirmed that he had discussed this potential sequel with director Garth Jennings noting "I had dinner with him and he said [the first one] just didn't do well enough."
