10 Films That Teased Great Sequels (That Never Happened)

9. Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road was the surprise hit of the decade. Resurrecting a cult classic Mel Gibson franchise from the 70s was a risk, perhaps not as big of a risk as if they had kept Gibson in it, and many had predicted it bombing at the box office and being annihilated by critics.

Surprisingly Fury Road was pretty much beloved by everyone - audiences, critics, even the Oscars - and its ending certainly left space for a sequel as Furiosa and Max attempt to rebuild the damaged world. While the end of the movie may have seen the end of Immortan Joe's reign over the Citadel there is still the question of how this society will survive long term and if Max or Furiosa will lead them.

However, legal disputes and a lengthy pause from the franchise has ground any chance of a sequel to a halt for the time being and perhaps forever. Factoring in Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy's availability, and their alleged clashing on set, this may be another reason we may never see the 'Wasteland' sequel. Maybe a Furiosa spin-off might be more likely...
