10 Films That Teased Great Sequels (That Never Happened)

7. 10 Cloverfield Lane

Dark Knight Rises Joseph Gordon Levitt
Paramount

The Cloverfield franchise is a turbulent set of films precariously claiming to all exist in the same universe with fairly mixed results. Its first entry was a standard found footage affair with some good moments amid forgettable characters, its second instalment was a clever psychological thriller with some great performances and the less said about The Cloverfield Paradox the better.

While all of the entries finish on a cliffhanger, 10 Cloverfield Lane's is the most intriguing. After Mary Elizabeth Winstead has defeated one of the Cloverfield monsters, with a Molotov Cocktail no less, we see her heading towards Houston where the survivors are attempting to battle the aliens head on. After an hour of watching characters try and survive in a nuclear bunker playing mind games this finale does feel a bit generic Hollywood sequel set up but does dangle a tantalising sequel in front of us.

However, as the sequel The Cloverfield Paradox failed to join up with this story and with a lack of any other Cloverfield projects on the horizon it appears we will never get to see humanity led by Winstead battle the Cloverfield aliens.

An avid cinephile, love Trainspotting (the film, not the hobby), like watching bad films ironically (The Room, Cats) and hate my over-reliance on brackets (they’re handy for a quick aside though).
