10 Films That Turn 10 Years Old In 2014

10. Shaun Of The Dead

Universal PicturesUniversal PicturesAt the turn of the new millennium Spaced hit the small screen and became a sleeper hit. With a cinematic style that elevated it from standard sitcom fodder, the show was offbeat, smart, savvy and crammed with film references. So when it was announced that the team that brought us this short-lived but well-loved show were unleashing the zombie apocalypse upon us, it was clear that this was going to be something ultimately different. Following Simon Pegg and Nick Frost through the streets of zombified London, director Edgar Wright's script - co-written with Pegg - earns its place on this list by splattering us with quick Brit wit, while also staying true to the genre it's pastiching. The funny moments are too many to mention, but standouts have to be a fence-hopping scene that is so well-staged it had to make an appearance in spiritual follow-up Hot Fuzz, and a pub standoff brought to life by an inspired jukebox choice. To really hammer home the appeal of this crossover hit, George A Romero liked this movie enough to reel in Pegg and Frost for a cameo in Land Of The Dead, which is high praise indeed. Bloody brilliant.
