3. Die Hard
I may get a lot of heat for this one since the title itself has become so iconic. But take a moment and think back to the first movie, to right after it was released. Did anyone actually die hard? Sure a bunch of bad guys got blown up, shot repeatedly or beaten senseless by John McClane, but nothing too brutal or shocking to warrant the phrase "die hard." And only the bad guys die in the film, save for a few casualties, so not a lot of hard deaths to deal with for the audience. Taking away its iconic stature for a moment, a title like Die Hard can better serve a franchise like Saw or Hostel, where individuals actually die hard, or worse. The title doesn't make much sense of the plot. No reference to a terrorist hostage situation in a tall building or the guy that's at the wrong place at the wrong time. Nevertheless, the film proved iconic enough to make the title a household phrase and spawning 4 sequels, so all we can do now is sit back and await the inevitable 5th sequel: " A Few More Ways to Die Hard."
