4. Pink Flamingos
John Water's "exercise in bad taste" in 1972 certainly left an impression to audiences at the time and made its mark on trash cinema history. To say even a little of the plot will detract from the bizarre but ground breaking experience of watching this film. What I can say for sure is that the title has absolutely nothing to do with the movie except for the fact that the very first frame of the film is a shot of two plastic pink flamingos that decorate the yard of Divine's trailer, and which the strangely long opening credits of the film play over. There's no underlying meaning, no hidden motifs, and no throwaway line. It's as if the filmmakers picked any object at random in the movie and decide to name the movie after it. It's like taking the movie Inception and retitling it "Spinning Top." Actually, that has more significance to its respective movie.
