10 Films To Watch On 4th Of July

4. The Patriot

the-patriot-movie What better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a wildly inaccurate action movie about the Revolutionary War? So what if we glorify Benjamin Martin, whose character is based on a slave-owning rapist who hunted Native Americans for fun? I mean, it's not like they had TV back then, they had to get their kicks somehow. In all seriousness, this is a schmaltzy, melodramatic film with questionable morals. But it's also kind of fun. As Americans, we reserve the right to love our rugged individualists who exercise their freedom to bear arms in case there's some tyranny that needs wiping out.(You know...back in the 1770s, when that argument still made sense.) Anyway, The Patriot is exactly the kind of movie you should be watching on July 4th -- action-packed, over the top, and totally unapologetic.
