10 Films To Watch On 4th Of July

3. Literally Any John Wayne Film

rooster-cogburn Doesn't even matter which one. There's nothing more American than John Wayne. Nothing. All that's left to decide is which John Wayne movie best celebrates the holiday. Admittedly, it probably isn't the regrettable The Conquerer, where we see Wayne as Genghis Khan (something I think we all could have happily lived without). But there's plenty of other valid choices. Maybe a nice McLintock, or Sands of Iwo Jima. If you're in the mood for a western, try The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance or The Searchers. Through his work almost exclusively in westerns and war films, John Wayne cemented his status as a cultural icon. For a lot of people, his gruff, no-nonsense, individualist persona is the definitive representation of the ultimate American.
