9. Jack-O (1995)
Jack-O is the final instalment in a trio of movies directed by Steve Latshaw in the early-to-mid-1990s (the others being Dark Universe and Biohazard: The Alien Force). It went straight-to-TV and video and was later released in 2005 as a special-edition DVD. The film follows the exploits of the Kelly family from the fictional town of Oakmoor Crossing, just before and during Halloween. The family, consisting of father David, mother Linda and son Sean, are shown to be a normal suburban family who lead a very normal life until they are visited by a stranger calling herself Vivian Machen. Apparently, both the Machens and the Kellys have a long ancestral history in Oakmoor Crossing and Vivian reveals to the Kelly family that one of their ancestors hanged a supposed evil wizard named Walter Machen. Walter was said to have raised up a pumpkin-headed demon named Jack-O from hell to take revenge on the family who hanged him. The Kelly ancestor ended up burying the demon in a shallow grave but, through the antics of several teenagers (in typical horror movie form), Jack-O is raised again and, after killing the teenagers, seeks revenge on the Kellys. An unprecedented five characters walk away in to the sunset at the end - one of whom sensibly hid all night (why don't other horror movie characters think of that?) - giving a somewhat "happy" ending to an otherwise silly (but fun) low-budget flick.
