Cast: George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges What It Could Have Been The Men Who Stare at Goats isn't exactly a bad film, and for that reason it just squeezes onto the list, but with the cast it has, it really should have performed better, both critically and commercially. It's not just the cast which suggests this film should have been a major hit either: the plot, - remarkably based on a true story - was intriguing too. Ewan McGregor is sent to Iraq to investigate rumours that the US has been training a band of psychic soldiers to do battle with its enemies. What's not to love? The Reality Unfortunately the film never gets out of second gear. It's one of those comedies that only rarely extracts a chuckle from its audience, and while the performers are all pretty solid, there just isn't enough in this plodding movie to really get the actors sparking off each other. And with the film being so one-paced, the performers were always going to struggle to really grab our attention. It's a shame: nice idea, classy cast, but the execution is just too bland.
